Margaret Kilgallen, mural artist.

This is sad.
I go check out this artist's stuff and quickly find out she died of breast cancer in 2001!
Margaret Kilgallen, was an awesome mural painter, amongts other things. She just had given birth to a baby girl, when she died at age 33 in 2001.

She had studied print art in college in Washington but now lived in San Fran, and had just completed a master degree in Art at Stanford. She was, or had been also an avid surfer, and apparently a banjo player as well — I love people who explore different aspects of their experience and are more than just 'an artist', a basketball player, or whatever.

Her work draws a lot on folk art with the addition of a strong social comment, the use of great muted colour harmonies and very interesting use of hand made typographic elements. The fact that her work is also very 2 dimentional and flat really appeals to me.
